FAQs

How did the Baddies start?
The Baddies started with one special group of girls who love and excel at flag football. We wanted more competition than our local rec leagues offer, and to test ourselves against the best teams in the country.  We have been competing in local and regional tournaments for over the last year and have already seen early success, winning multiple tournaments!

Why be a Baddie?
We’re building a community of amazing families and amazing girls that love competing at the highest levels (in whatever they do).  We’ve seen our own daughters grow up in flag football the last few years and Baddies aims to be everything that’s great about football with none of the negatives.  We offer a highly competitive environment that’s also positive and encouraging, while having a ton of fun.  We believe Baddies can have a significant positive impact on the future of girls flag football and inspire the next generation of athletes to have success in high school, college, and beyond.  We love that we can be part of that!

How do the grade/age levels work in competitive flag football?
Competitive flag is age-based, not grade level. The Baddies follow the NFL Flag age guidelines, which uses the 8/1 birthday cutoff for age groups. Current age groups and age ranges:

Division Oldest age in group

8U 8/1/2015

10U 8/1/2013

12U 8/1/2011

14U  8/1/2009

HS (17U) 8/1/2006

Can we continue to play in other rec leagues?
Of course! The Baddies is a competitive flag football club, with no overlap to the local rec programs. We encourage girls to play as much football as possible, including on their original rec teams. We are looking for athletes who want more than rec football.

What about my athlete’s other sports?
We are multi-sport friendly and strongly believe that each sport gives to each other in positive ways.  We encourage Baddies to do all the things!  We will have regularly scheduled skills-based training sessions that are drop in and we don’t envision anything resembling a 3-day/week commitment.

Where will practices and games be played?
We will be using local grass fields in Carlsbad and Encinitas for group trainings and practices, and turf fields for league games/tournaments. Because most of our girls are multi-sport athletes, we want them on grass as much as possible to minimize stress on their knees/joints.

What will be the commitment to practices?
Each team will have their own practice schedule as well as Select tournament teams.

How many players per team?
We prefer smaller teams where everyone plays a lot.  Since the format is 5v5, 8 is ideal and no more than 10 on a roster.

Can I request a friend?
Yes!  We will do our best to accommodate requests.

When is League Play?
Spring 2025 will be the kickoff of the Baddies League.  First games in March. More details to come.

When and where are tournaments usually played?
Tournaments will happen throughout the year and the majority will be regional in Southern California.  There will also be opportunities to play in National Tournaments should teams qualify.  We aim to give as much notice as possible once we finish planning for the year.

What equipment will I need?
Cleats and mouthguard

How does my daughter become a Baddie?
The Baddies recruiting department is constantly on the lookout for standout football studs in the local rec programs. If your daughter is dominating, she will be noticed. The other way to become a Baddie is to attend one of our tryouts, which we will hold a few times/year.

How much does the Baddies cost?
The Baddies club includes membership dues for all players. These monthly dues include:

-Uniforms/flags for League season and Tournaments
-league and tournament fees (Select Teams)
-monthly group trainings
-professional highlight videos and edits

2025 pricing:

$150/month for new Baddies

$100/month for 2024 Baddies

Can we take a break/quit at any time?
Yes, there will be no contract for any athletes. If a Baddie needs a six month hiatus from football, put the membership on hold. If they quit, dues stop.

Where do you find coaches? Are they screened and approved?
Our current Baddies coaches are parents who have coached for 2+ years of flag football. Every coach must go through a background check, and keep up with CPR/Concussion certifications.

Can we sign our team up for the Baddies League without becoming a Baddie?
Yes! The Baddies League is the first competitive girls-only league in North County, and will be including local travel clubs and HS teams in league play. We want as much competition as possible in our league- iron sharpens iron!
